"Smallville" star Sam Jones is less than a month away from being sentenced in his major drug case and he's spending one of his few remaining weeks of freedom in Holland … looking for dogs.

Jones goes in front of a judge on June 22 to be sentenced for conspiring to illegally sell THOUSANDS of oxycodone pills and he could get as much as 70 months in the pokey.

But before that happens, Jones is going to spend the first week of June in Holland, where he will handpick dogs for a canine-protection business he owns called Platinum K9.  PK9 sells personal protection dogs to high-end and celebrity clients … as well as to police K9 units. Ironic, no?

Jones got permission from Uncle Sam to head overseas, according to court docs filed this week, and will have his passport returned to him for the trip. The docs say Jones has to submit his itinerary to court officials before the trip and report back to them within 24 hours of his return … or else.

‘Smallville’: Why We Didn’t See Tom Welling in the Suit – Hollywood Reporter

Viewers always knew the CW’s Smallville series would end with Clark Kent’s transformation into Superman. But seeing series star Tom Welling in the full Superman suit wasn’t what the series was ultimately about.

Executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders spent 10 seasons supporting the “No Tights, No Flight” philosophy that ultimately fell by the wayside in Smallville’s two-hour May 13 series finale. But did Welling actually wear the entire suit?

“That is a great debate that’s going on,” Souders coyly told The Hollywood Reporter.

The finale included a few scenes in which Welling is seen sporting the upper-half of the Superman suit, however, the only full-suit scene is done from a distance and via CGI with Superman finally taking flight in space and saving the planet.

“What we wanted to do all along was show hints at where he was going because that is a whole different story that is yet to be told,” Peterson told THR. “It felt like it gave just enough without starting to tell a whole different story that is left for all the other media.’

Peterson, who penned Part 2 of the finale with Souders, noted that the series has always been about Clark becoming the hero from the famed mythos and that the adventures of Superman were stories that have been — and will continue to be told — via other avenues, including Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Man of Steel, set for next year. “[Showing Tom in the full suit] to me is just not super relevant and not what we were trying to do,” he said.

“We were actually thrilled that everybody came together and was on board with the shots that we specifically picked,” he added.

“We all wanted it to be the end of Clark Kent’s journey because it’s a show about Clark Kent,” he said. “In the days when we saw him in a flannel shirt, the suit was the furthest thing from his mind.”

Were you disappointed not to see Welling in the full suit?

A Letter from a fan 5/26/11

image from www.2dayblog.com

Here's a sweet email we recieved today:

"I have been watching Smallville since it’s beginning and have never missed it one time. The final show tonight was as grand as the whole series was, and I was so happy to see Lex Luther and Clarks dad  back. I will really miss my Friday night fix. The acting and writing was superb. Tom Welling has grown from a young lad into a wonderful man. I am 72 years old and I will sorely miss this show. Tom made you feel that maybe there could be a super hero that could save our world like Christopher Reeve did. I was a great fan of his also. God bless to all of the stars and writers of this show. You have made one old lady a very happy person.

Six DC Comics Projects We Want To See On TV

DeadmanBy Matt Adler

The past few weeks have seen a shrinking presence for DC Comics in the live-action television world. "Smallville" concluded its 10-year run with a two-hour series finale on The CW, Fox canceled "Human Target," and NBC passed on the "Wonder Woman" series.

However, comics seem more popular than ever on the big screen, with DC’s "Green Lantern" hitting theaters next month, and the next installment of Christopher Nolan's live-action Batman films, "The Dark Knight Rises," beginning production last week.

With all of that in mind, we decided to take a look at some of the DC properties that might make for good live-action television down the road — and hopefully good ratings, too!

Booster Gold

BOOSTER GOLD
Booster Gold comes to us from the future with no purpose more noble than garnering fame and fortune. But in his most recent comic book series, he assumed the mantle of chronological repairman, journeying to key moments in time to “fix” things that have gone wrong. This could make for compelling episodic television, as each week Booster would have a new motivation and new setting to contend with. Think "Quantum Leap," but with superheroes.

Hourman

HOURMAN
Could Hourman be the “24” of superheroes? Rex Tyler is one of the rare superheroes who finds himself dependent on the use of a drug for his powers. His pills grant him superhuman strength and speed for 60 minutes only, and the level of tension and suspense this creates could translate well to series television, with the hero having to complete the mission before time — and his powers — run out. Possible issues of drug dependency would also provide some real human drama.

Deadman

DEADMAN
Usually we hold our breath and hope the hero makes it out of an episode alive… but it’s too late for Deadman. The most unique thing about this deceased do-gooder is his ability to “possess” the body of whomever he chooses. Spiritual possession isn’t usually a good thing, but Deadman is able to make heroic use of it in the comics, and just think of the opportunities it would create for guest stars!

Martian Manhunter

THE MARTIAN MANHUNTER
We’ve seen one strange visitor from another planet on television, but Superman is ultimately one of us. So what about a visitor from a truly alien culture who tries to use his powers to fit in? Enter J’onn J’onnz, the Martian Manhunter. This could be a great fish-out-of-water series, and his shape-shifting

‘Batman Live’ world arena tour starts July 19 | Hero Complex – Los Angeles Times

There’s another version of Gotham City on the horizon — the “Batman
Live
” stage spectacle opens in Manchester, England, on July 19 with
arena dates announced in nine other U.K. cities. Promoters say the tour will reach
North America next year.

The show is not a musical (after “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,” why would it be?) but
more of a high-velocity stunt production with a storyline. The official description prominently declares the show to
be ”faithfully adapted from the DC Comics characters and
stories” but then goes on to describe a scenario that contradicts pretty
much every Robin origin story you’ve ever read: “‘Batman Live’ focuses on
Robin’s quest for justice, which leads him to follow in the footsteps of his
hero, the mysterious vigilante known as the Batman — much to the dismay of his
protective guardian, millionaire Bruce Wayne –
secretly happens to be Batman. This triangle resolves itself in a nonstop
thrill-ride across Gotham City that transforms Bruce Wayne and Dick
Grayson
into the legendary crime-fighters Batman and Robin…”

Anyway, the video above looks like something Joel Schumacher
would enjoy a lot more than Christopher Nolan would.

Why Superman’s Costume Does Not Need Major Changes For The Reboot

With Man of Steel reboot coming out in 2012, people wonder what Superman’s costume is going to look like. Some people want to see changes like the red trunks being removed from the costume while some want the costume to follow the comics like myself. I have to say that after looking at the concept arts of Superman’s costume from previous attempts and how they completely different from the superman we know love, I believe that the costume does not need major changes at all. Superman’s costume should be left alone.

The reason being that Superman’s costume is icon and has been around for 73 years. Plus the whole red trunks got to go is stupid and the people who say that it looks ridiculous on him need to get over it. Getting rid of the trunks would be like making Lex Luthor a CIA Agent who is secretly a kryptonian. Has anyone even learned from Superman Returns when they made changes Superman’s costume with the tight coller, burgundy cape, and the small “s” on his chest? When I first saw the image of Brandon Routh in costume, I was very disappointed in Singer for what he has done and felt like I was being Punked.

The other reason is that Superman is not like Batman. I know people use the excuse that Batman’s costume change in the m

Nikita and One Tree Hill Renewed, Hellcats Cancelled – UGO.com

With all the horrible rounds of cancellations and passings this Upfront season, it's a good time to be on The CW.  Sales are solid, and most of your favorite shows continue to find life, even those long past prime!

Among the last of the network's series to be renewed, Deadline reports that on-the-bubble spy drama Nikita, as well as CW mainstay One Tree Hill have both been renewed for Fall 2011!  Nikita on the one hand earned a full second season order, while The CW seems cautiously tepid about One Tree Hill, debuting it in midseason with only a thirteen episode order.

Further adventures for Maggie Q, Lyndsy Fonseca and Shane West come as a result of Nikita's fairly strong performance Thursday nights, as well as strong international numbers owing to the history of the franchise.  How One Tree Hill, on the other hand, has made it to a ninth season despite losing leads Chad Michael Murray and Sophia Bush is anyone's guess.

Faring less valiantly is The CW's cheerleading drama Hellcats, which the network has opted not to renew.  With Smallville having ended its ten year run, and Tom Welling no longer executive producing for Hellcats, whatever will become of the former Man of Steel?!

On the brighter side however are official orders for Sarah Michelle Gellar's comeback vehicle Ringer, as well as Dawson's Creek and Vampire Diaries scribe Kevin Williamson's Secret Circle, and Chuck creator Josh Schwartz new Rachel Bilson project Hart of Dixie.

What say you?  Have you been keeping up with Nikita?  Are you excited to see it back next season?  What about the other new CW shows, or of poor Tom Welling?  Give us a cheer with your thoughts below!
