After a lengthy ten-season run on the WB and later the CW, “Smallville” signed off on its final episode this past May to the inevitable sadness of the series’ hardcore fans. Nevertheless, “Smallville: The Complete Series” is available tomorrow, November 29th, on DVD, and we’ve got an exclusive clip from the special features section of the boxed set that features cast and crew talking about the thought processes that went into humanizing Superman’s Kryptonian father Jor-El, played by both Julian Sands and Terence Stamp (the latter in voiceover).

In order to stoke viewers’ emotional investment in the relationship between Clark and his birth father, the writers made sure to depict Jor-El as a warmer presence when he showed up in Smallville in human form (as Sands), afraid that only showcasing his disembodied voice alone would make him unrelatable as a character to the show’s audience.

Watch the exclusive video below, and then let us know in the comments whether you’ll be standing in line tomorrow to pick up the box set!

Bat Analysis: The Batman Adult Onesie | Geeks of Doom

Batman Onesie

There are very few things that shock and astonish me in this life. I feel like I have just about seen everything, but the Batman Onesie produced by Warner Bros. is one of those things.

I’ve even been aware of its existence before. A friend of mine even got one for Christmas last year, but I had not seen it in action until I saw it in this picture. I’m disturbed, frightened, and a little bit excited for the potential of new Batman merchandise. It’s official name according to Amazon is “Batman Comfy Throw Blanket With Sleeves,” but is best known as “the lazy man’s cosplay.” Or simply, the Batman onesie. If you’re for some reason interested in buying this for yourself or as a gag gift for your friend, you can do so here, but if you’ll indulge me for a little bit, I’d like to examine this picture for just a moment.

Okay, so this is pretty much a horrifying picture of a man with little to gain in life as he reaches what I can only assume is his last days on planet Earth. He’s thrown all sense of pride and dignity out of his half-blinded window and has accepted what is now a shell of his former self. This can all be determined by the fact that he is wearing the Batman Comfy Blanket With Sleeves. It also stands to reason that he feels hopeless because he identifies with Batman instead of his “Being Wonderous” wife who’s inspired by Wonder Woman, or his proud and hopeful twin who wears his Superman Comfy Blanket With Sleeves with no shame at all. No, our Batman-inspired slouch wears his Comfy Blanket With Sleeves because he wants more in life. I assume that the young man who has given up on life wishes that he were able to move from the couch to his garage and dress up like a superhero so that he too can fight crime. But alas, his days are numbered, and he has accepted that.

But why has he given up? There are so many different possibilities. The first of which is that he feels like he is completely stuck in a controlling marriage by his “Wonderous” wife who seems to carry on some sort of relationship with his twin brother who loves Superman. We can tell this by the alternate photos of Superman twin on his brother’s couch enjoying a fine television program. But it’s evident that “Wonderous” wife is in control based on the decor of the room. Take note of the weaved media baskets and empty vases placed inside the bookshelf. A fan of Batman who is in control of his life would proudly display his Absolute Edition of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight! So no, he’s not in control of his own life. He’s depressed, floundering, and waiting for the sweet release of the afterlife, hence the sad grin on his pudgy face. But how did he get himself into this mess? What could have caused a man to hit rock bottom like this? Unemployment? Nay. Favorite TV Show being cancelled? Doubtful. No, this man has experience a far greater trauma than we could even begin to imagine.

Batman Onesie Guy is a war veteran who has made a sacrifice to his country to fight for its standards and grace, and unfortunately, he lost his legs while doing so. If you’ll notice, there appear to be no legs at all under this Batman Cozy Fleece Blanket With Sleeves. His confidence after the war drove his wife into the arms of his twin brother who also was seeking comfort after the family disaster. But fear not, Batman Cozy Fleece Blanket With Sleeves Man, your family still cares about you, and your country appreciates your sacrifice. Please do not fear the future, make the future fear you. Batman had his back broken by Bane and went on to return to the cowl. If he can return to fighting super crime, you can turn your life around and make it out of the muck and mire of the mundane life you lead. If you need to leave your “Wonderous” wife to get ahead in life, make it so. You are a man who has potential! Learn from The Batman on your Cozy Blanket With Sleeves and stay determined to earn a better life. Don’t let these days pass you by!

DC Comics’ Booster Gold heads to Syfy | blog.zap2it.com

Booster-Gold-cropped.jpgComic book fans, “Smallville” fans … and yes, even “Fringe” fans, listen up! Syfy has just ordered a pilot based on the DC Comics’ character, Booster Gold. According to THR, “Fringe” writer Andrew Kreisberg will be writing the pilot.

Dan Jurgens created the character of Booster Gold back in 1986. He’s the superheroic identity of Michael Jon Carter, a resident of the 25th century who travels back in time to the present day. There, he makes use of his futuristic technology to become a hero. This hero is, at first, a bit like a modern day reality star, seeking fame and fortune. He later becomes a true hero.

“Smallville” fans will remember that Booster Gold appeared in the 10th and final season, where he teamed with both Clark Kent and Blue Beetle (another incarnation of which was one of the character’s best friends in the comics).

So, “Smallville” fans, are you excited to see the DC Universe return to the small screen? Let us know your thoughts below.

SMALLVILLE’s John Schneider Lands GLEE Role | tv.broadwayworld.com

SMALLVILLEs-John-Schneider-Lands-GLEE-Role-20010101

“Smallville” actor John Schneider has landed the part of Sam’s father on GLEE, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The first episode for the actor (this season’s eighth episode) will also mark the first episode that Chord Overstreet has reprised his role as Sam.

Overstreet’s character was introduced last season as a transfer student at McKinley, discovered by then-football captain Finn (Corey Monteith) while singing Poison’s “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” in the locker room. Later in the season, Sam revealed that his dad had lost his job, and that his family was living in a motel. In Season Three’s premiere, viewers learned that Sam and his family had moved out of state.

GLEE returned with all-new episodes on this week with the the “Pot O’ Gold” episode, in which new foreign exchange student Rory Flanagan (guest star Damian McGinty) enrolls at McKinley and crashes with Brittany S. Pierce (Heather Morris), who thinks he’s a leprechaun. Meanwhile, Mercedes (Amber Riley) attempts to recruit new members to join Shelby Corcoran’s (guest star Idina Menzel) newly formed glee club; and Sue’s congressional campaign heats up.

GLEE is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are co-creators of the series. Murphy, Falchuk, Brennan and Dante di Loreto serve as executive producers. Become a fan of GLEE on Facebook at www.facebook.com/glee. Exclusive: Smallville’s Erica Durance Brings Wonder Woman to Harry’s Law | TVLIne.com

Anyone who has longed to see Erica Durance channel the Wonder Woman are going to see their dream come true — albeit perhaps via the unlikeliest of circumstances.

TVLine has learned exclusively that the Smallville alumna is set to guest-star on NBC’s Harry’s Law — which currently airs Wednesdays at 9/8c and was just picked up for a full second season — as a psychologically infirm woman who retreats into the persona of the DC Comics heroine to help wreak revenge on perpetrators of domestic abuse.

Durance will appear in the legal dramedy’s 11th episode, which given NBC’s midseason schedule change-up does not at this moment have a firm air date.

Ironically, this storytelling twist affords Harry’s Law creator David E. Kelley the chance anew to tap into the Wonder Woman mythos, after his pilot starring Adrianne Palicki as the Amazonian princess didn’t make the Peacock’s 2011-12 schedule.

In fact, that coupled with the fact that Harry’s Law, like Wonder Woman, is a Warner Bros. property, raises the possibility that viewers may even see Durance don the iconic outfit (versus the ersatz version she at one time slipped into as Smallville‘s generic “Amazon princess”).

Since Smallville signed off in May, Durance has kept very busy, landing the female lead in the medical drama Saving Hope (a Canadian TV pilot which just got ordered to series), playing twins for an indie film lensed in Italy, and guesting on ABC’s Charlie’s Angels.

To recap: Erica Durance. Wonder Woman. Harry’s Law. Maybe the costume.

ABC Family Q&A: Laura Vandervoort Spreads Christmas Joy | poptimal.com

I may have mentioned once or twice how much I love the original movies on ABC Family. They’re wonderfully cheesy, and sweet, and the kind of creations that make you revel in being female for a couple of hours without feeling too guilty about it. Their newest offering is called Desperately Seeking Santa, starring Laura Vandervoort (Smallville, V) and Nick Zano (2 Broke Girls). I had the chance to sit in on a round table interview with Laura, in which I learned more about why she loves this character, how this role differs from projects she’s done previously, and yes, what it was like to work with an up and coming cutie-pie like Mr. Zano.

When asked whether she prefers comedy to science-fiction type drama, and what drew her to the character of Jennifer Walker, Laura had plenty to say.

“I started working when I was about 13 and I started doing mainstream television on sci-fi with Smallville and V, so that’s kind of been my world for a while – the sci-fi world. But since those have ended I’ve had the chance to do some feature films and really kind of mix it up for myself with Ted and This Means War and obviously Desperately Seeking Santa, which is a romantic comedy, and I’ve never had the chance to do that. Obviously I relate more to Jennifer Walker than my other characters, which were aliens and flesh-eating lizards, but it was a lot of fun to film and it was in my hometown.”

Desperately Seeking Santa is a fun twist on the Scrooge type of money-miser Christmas theme. Jennifer enjoyed playing a character no one like, and had some insight as to what appealed to her about the script.

“Honestly, the fact that she was human was a small portion of the reason I chose the role…she’s a bit of a workaholic, like myself, and I tend to forget to have fun sometimes because I am so serious like Jennifer. In the film she learns that it’s not all about working hard and being focused. You can actually have fun and relax. It was the first role where I enjoyed the process. We were laughing. We were being silly. The smiles in the film are all real.”

And working with Nick Zano?

“It was great. We got along really well and I think the producers were happy with our chemistry. It was pretty easy. We have similar personalities – joking around on set. I was lucky. The whole cast was fantastic, and since I’m from Toronto, where we shot the film, a lot of the actors are my friends.”

The movie, in addition to being a romance, is really about the importance of family and friends. What was your favorite part about developing the friendships?

“I enjoyed working with Paula (Brancati), who plays Marissa in the film. I knew her beforehand. She was on Degrassi and I was on Instant Star so we sort of shared the same crew and set. We get a long really well so a lot of the scenes that we got to do that were kind of the silly, friendship scenes were a lot of fun, and the fact that my character kind of turns on her was tough.”

Laura talked a little about what she’d love to do, as well as who she’d love to work with, in the future.

“As an actor, I have an entire list of people I’d want to work with. Definitely at the top of my list would be Meryl Streep,  Rachel McAdams. I would love work with Paul Giamatti, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, Shia LeBeouf – I mean, all for different reasons of course, but I just want to continue to work, and if I can work with great actors around me and learn from them and continue to grow then I’m happy.”

Also, the girl has great taste in television shows.

“I’m currently obsessed with The Walking Dead. It’s kind of right up my dark, morbid alley. But on the other side of that, Big Bang Theory I think is fantastic.  I worked with Kaley Cuoco when we were like 13. I would love to be a part of Mad Men. I could go on, but those are the top of the list.”

We all know it’s a great time of year, being able to turn on the television and be treated to a Christmas movie. So what are some of Laura’s favorites?

“The classic White Christmas and because I’m a Tim Burton fan, The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is an off choice, but I’ve always enjoyed it. There was a clay animation film I liked growing up called The Abominable Snowman.”

Laura has been in this business since she was just a kid, and looking back, she would give her younger self some pretty good advice.

“I would probably tell myself to try to enjoy it a little more and not take it so seriously. That it will all come together and you don’t know everything yet – you’re still going to discover new things about yourself and about this world, so just hang tight.”

So why should viewers tune in and watch Desperately Seeking Santa?

“Well, if you love Christmas films and you love that warm feeling you get from watching them – your heart feels joy and you want to sit there with family, this is a great film. It’s also great if you’re a true romantic at heart, it’s a beautiful kind of love story. It has all the aspects. You’ve got the Scrooge, you’ve got Santa, you’ve got Santa’s helpers, which are all the other characters in this film, and then on top of it all, it’s a beautiful love story with a splash of comedy. It was a lot of fun to film, so I think it will be a lot of fun for people to watch.”

Desperately Seeking Santa airs at 8/7c Sunday, November 27, 2011 on ABC Family.

Smallville DVD Exclusive: Tom Welling and Others Share ‘Lex-Rated’ Series Finale Secrets |tvline.com

Each time I think I am done writing about Smallville… they pull me back in. Or, in this instance, an exclusive sneak peek at an extra from the complete series DVD set (out next Tuesday, Nov. 29) lands in my lap.

As TVLine had the thrill of being the first to report, Michael Rosenbaum, after some back-and-forth and negotiating of schedules, made his way back to the CW series just in time to bring Lex appeal to the grand finale. In the below clip from the featurette “The Return of Lex Luthor,” Rosenbaum, series lead Tom Welling and others discuss what it was like to deliver the pretty much mandatory face-off between Clark Kent and his longtime frenemy.

For one, as it was well-reported, the writers had to rejigger the first draft of the finale script, which had been prepped without any Lex in it. Also, as Rosenbaum amusingly relates, the whirlwind schedule demanded that he learn and rattle off Lex’s monologues very quickly — and with no help from his scene partner. (Watch Rosenbaum do a funny “imitation” of Welling-as-Clark.) You also hear from Cassidy Freeman (sharing her delight at getting to finally work with her “brother”), director Greg Beeman and exec producer Kelly Souders.

Smallville: The Complete Series boasts all 218 episodes, over five hours of newly added special features (including a never-before-seen Superboy pilot from 1961), over 100 minutes of retrospective featurettes, an issue of the Daily Planet penned by DC Comics, and more. Also out Nov. 29 is Smallville: The Tenth Season (in DVD and Blu-ray), which features a look back at the 200th episode, “Homecoming,” and commentaries on “Lazarus” and “Kent.”
