Composer Hans Zimmer helmed the score for the upcoming Superman film Man of Steel, and the movie’s heartfelt approach to the almost-invincible superhero called for an appropriately optimistic yet yearning soundtrack. Happy birthday, Superman! A look back at 75 powerful years | Hero Complex – movies, comics, pop culture – Los Angeles Times
Superman is celebrating his 75th birthday with a new comic book by DC Comics all-stars Jim Lee and Scott Snyder and an ambitious new film directed by Zack Snyder and co-written and -produced by Christopher Nolan, of “Dark Knight” trilogy fame.
Part of Superman’s success is owed to his unique origin story as an infant refugee from the planet Krypton. Superman, known as Kal-El on Krypton, was a baby when his parents sent him to Earth to escape Krypton’s destruction. He landed on a farm in fictional Smallville, Kansas, and was raised by a farmer and his wife, Jonathan and Martha Kent. As young Clark Kent grew up, he discovered he had special abilities, and he dedicated his life to secretly using his powers to help humanity.

Happy 75th Birthday Superman And Lois Lane!
Superman and Lois Lane are having a pretty stellar week. Sure, it started off with a terrifying TV message from General Zod, but then we got a scene showing the duo coming face to face in the latest (and greatest) “Man of Steel” trailer. Now we celebrate the pair’s 75th birthday. 1938′s “Action Comics” #1 contained the debut of two of the most important characters in comic book history. In fact, it’s safe to say that these characters embody traits that have become essential ingredients in every successful hero: Selfless like Superman, tenacious like Lois Lane; powerful of body like Superman and powerful of spirit like Lois Lane.

As I type this, it’s turning April 18 in the U.S., and I’ve been surprised and pleased to see that — as we first started to mention back when the Scott Snyder / Jim Lee Superman comic rumors began to surface — many fans have noticed that this is probably the best day to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the release of Action Comics #1, with the first appearance of Superman in a 13 page story by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Lois Lane first appeared in this story as well (Perry White and Jimmy Olsen came along a bit later).

Cleveland Celebrates Superman, Its Hometown Hero : NPR
April 18, 2013, is a big day for Superman. The Man of Steel, more powerful than a locomotive, turns 75. Most of us know Superman’s story — faster than a speeding bullet, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.
Less well-known is that the superhero is not native to the lost world of Krypton, nor the rural Kansas burg of Smallville. Superman is Cleveland’s native son — at least as far as the city’s residents are concerned.
As a boy, Jerry Siegel lived at 10622 Kimberly Ave., in Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood. He was a young writer full of ideas, and one hot summer night, he looked out his window at the moon and stars, and thought of what it would be like to fly.
