Batman Earth One artwork1.jpg“BATMAN and Before Watchmen were just some of the topics discussed by creators during the DC All Access and New 52 panels at Chicago’s Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2).

Batman Earth One artwork2 Alfred.jpgPreferring to tease rather then reveal industry-shaking secrets, DC alumni – featuring editor-in-chief Bob Harras, editorial director Bobbie Chase, chief creative officer and writer Geoff Johns, J. Michael Straczynski, Shane Davis, David Finch, Kevin Maguire and Scott Snyder to name a few – were on hand during the convention to give fans just enough to keep them wanting more without too many spoilers.

One such teaser was dropped by CCO Geoff Johns when talking up the DC Free Comic Book Day issue. “It’s a story that really sets the stage for a lot of things that are coming in DC Comics,” he said just before quickly flashing a four-page fold out featuring Jim Lee’s art…”

Superman and Captain America score big at movie auction | TG Daily

“With the economy still down and out, it’s kind of difficult to imagine who’s got the cash to pay six figures for the camera that shot the first Star Wars movie.

The same goes for the six figures shelled out for an original Bela Lugosi Dracula poster, or close to a million for the last existing poster for the sci-fi classic Metropolis. Clearly, people are paying big bucks for movie memorabilia, even in this day and age.

$412 Check Superman Sold for $160,000: A Final Blow for Superman Creators Who Died Penniless VIDEO

“The original check of $412 which bought the rights to Superman from its creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in 1938 and launched a longtime copyright battle was auctioned off for $160,000 Tuesday. The original paycheck, which went to an unknown buyer, was saved by a former DC Comics staffer in the 1970s and likely brought up past issues for the families of the creators, who both died penniless.DC Comics has made millions off of the creation of Superman, but continuously failed to compensate either Siegel or Shuster for their creation. The $412 check which was paid to both creators in 1938 is the equivalent to receiving a $6,450 check today. The movies based off of the Superman character have grossed over $500 million alone. With successful sales of comics, action figurines, and collector’s cards- amongst the many other things that have been created after Superman- it would appear as those the creators of the iconic figure had been scammed…”

Court Slams Ethics Of Warner Bros Rival In Superman Copyright Case – Deadline.com

More news on the whole SUPERMAN Copyright trial from Deadlinehollywooddaily.com:

“Warner Bros got big judicial boost today in the case about who really owns the rights to Superman. First, the Court of Appeals Ninth Circuit unanimously rejected an attempt by Marc Toberoff, the lawyer for the estates of Superman’s co-creators, to use attorney-client privilege to keep documents pertinent to the long-ongoing copyright case secret. Then, while noting it wasn’t a matter before the court in this instance, Judge Diarmuid O’Scannlain took the rare step of specifically noting the “ethical and professional concerns raised by Toberoff’s actions” in playing the role of both lawyer and business adviser for the estates of Superman creators Joe…”

smallville season 11 | DC Comics

On the heels of today’s SMALLVILLE SEASON 11 #1 release, DC Comics announced the addition of two new digital first weekly titles, BATMAN digital and AME-COMI GIRLS. The addition of the two new digital titles brings the total of digital series that update weekly to five, meaning DC Comics will offer a new digital chapter every single day, Monday through Friday.

BATMAN digital, launching in June, will take place outside of DC Comics – The New 52 continuity and feature a series of stand-alone stories by various creators that chronicle different cases handled by The Dark Knight. Confirmed creative teams include Damon Lindelof and Jeff Lemire; Jonathan Larsen and JG Jones; Tom Taylor and Nicola Scott; Ales Kot and Ryan Sook; B. Clay Moore and Ben Templesmith; Steve Niles and Trevor Hairsine; Joe Harris and Jason Masters; TJ Fixman and Christopher Mitten; Jeff Parker and Gabriel Hardman; Joshua Hale Fialkov and Phil Hester; David Tischman and Chris Sprouse; and many more!

AME-COMI GIRLS, launching in May, is based on the best-selling product line from DC Collectibles that brings the distinct Japanese influence of anime and manga to DC Comics’ female heroines and their foes. In the new series, the heroines must unite to stop an invasion by the female Braniac, who is aided by a group of “bad girl” super villains. Initially, there will be five individual character arcs with multiple chapters, leading up to united, Ame-Comi girl series. All stories are written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray with Wonder Woman art by Amanda Conner and Tony Akins, Batgirl art by Sanford Greene, Duela Dent art by Ted Naifeh, Power Girl art by Mike Bowden and Supergirl art by Santi Casas.

Starting in June, DC Comics’ weekly digital comic book line-up will be:

Mondays: AME-COMI GIRLS

Tuesdays: BATMAN: ARKHAM UNHINGED

Wednesdays: BEYOND series (alternating digital titles JUSTICE LEAGUE BEYOND, BATMAN BEYOND, SUPERMAN BEYOND)

Thursdays: BATMAN digital

Fridays: SMALLVILLE SEASON 11

“The addition of these new titles and the five-day-a-week digital first line-up reinforce DC Comics’ role as a digital leader,” stated Hank Kanalz, senior vice president of digital, DC Entertainment. “We’re producing high-quality, digital first content at affordable price-points attractive to readers new and existing. We’ve seen from our top-selling digital titles like BATMAN: ARKHAM UNHINGED and the BEYOND series that these books remain very popular when collected in print form, too. In fact, both print issues of BATMAN BEYOND UNLIMITED have gone back to press within the week of their release.”
