The thing I think I love the most about the Smallville Season Eleven series isn’t so much the writing and art, but the fact that it is truly an extension of the televison show, and not just more stories utilizing the same characters. And yes, there is a difference.
With this third story arc, ghosts abound and plague our various heroes and villains to one degree or another. Bart Allen, aka Impulse, returns to visit with Clark, just in time to help Superman take down another of Luthor’s unintentional creations — Psymon. But Impulse’s visit is more than just a friendly one. Ever since his escape from Luthor’s speed trap as seen on television, Bart has been seeing visions of a dark speedster chasing him every time he approaches his maximum speed. I’ll forgive writer Bryan Q. Miller for pulling in the Black Flash character from one of my least favorite Flash storylines, because in their quest to learn about this mysterious bogeyman, Superman introduces Bart to another, older hero who may have insight into the issue: Jay Garrick, the Flash!
