The half-hour live-action series follows the adventures of a young girl who discovers, on her 10th birthday, that she has superpowers.
Canadian indie Shaftesbury will produce the drama in association with John May and Suzanne Bolch of Heroic Television.
“I was a tomboy growing up and didn’t like princesses, ponies or pink,” Vandervoort explained. “With my Supergirl background and fan base, I thought it would be great to develop a series that speaks to girls like me.”
The main character, Deelia, struggles with how best to use the superpowers she suddenly inherits on her 10th birthday, with help from friends, a wise grandmother and a talking dog.
Besides playing Supergirl Kara in The CW’s Smallville series, Vandervoort also stars in Bitten, a female werewolf drama for Canada’s Space channel and Syfy in the U.S.
