The very first clip from the ensemble historical drama Parkland asks you to imagine your normal day suddenly turning every shade of tense.
That’s what happens to a young emergency room doctor at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas when President Kennedy is shot. The clip endeavors to capture the immediacy and panic of that moment, focusing on one overwhelmed doctor who never imagined that the life of the President of the United States would be in his hands.
The young doctor is played by Zac Efron, who, between this and Neighbors, is clearly stretching with some unexpected fare. The great Marcia Gay Harden and the also great Mark Duplass are on hand, with Harden in particular giving this scene the urgency it demands.
Efron, Harden, and Duplass are members of an ensemble that includes the likes of Billy Bob Thornton, Paul Giamatti, Jacki Weaver, Ron Livingston, James Badge Dale, Colin Hanks, Jackie Earle Haley, Tom Welling, Rory Cochran, and David Harbour.
